The Rambler Hotel

My wife and I stayed here using IHG points, and it’s a solid value for a free night. Important tip: Make sure you enter through the middle driveway of the property; that’s where the office is located for check-in. ​Keep in mind this is technically a motel, as all rooms are accessible directly from the parking lot. The "Americana" decor is really cute—lots of fun nods to classic road trips and Route 66 vibes. As for the free breakfast, it’s pretty spartan. It provides the bare minimum to get you on the road so you aren't starving, but don't expect a full spread. Overall, a nice, themed spot for a quick stay!

The quality of the motel is great for the price! They have some retro arcade machines, a small cafe, and grab and go food. There is also a fire place located by the pool. They also sell s'more kits, which I thought was very nice! The service was excellent and everyone was very friendly and accommodating. The room was colorful and artsy, which I very much enjoyed. You could also borrow a bike to ride around on. The shower gets hot water really fast, make sure to test it. There were 3 things that didn't get a full 5 star review on 'Rooms' and that was the thinness of the floors/walls. We had a couple of little kids staying above us that kept running up and down the hallway and knocking on walls. Kids will be kids, but this is moreso about the thinness of walls, I could hear people walking upstairs. If you are an early riser this probably won't be a problem, but I was hoping to sleep until checkout. The second was that the A/C was not working as well, so it was hot sometimes while sleeping. The last is that there were little black bugs that would come out of the sink. Other than that, we had a great stay, our room was on the first floor and we parked right in front of it. The motel is right next to the 5 freeway.

This place is reasonably priced and great! We ended up staying here all three nights we were in San Diego but one night at a time because we did not know our plans. But after each night we found ourselves back at the Rambler. Super easy to get in and out of incredibly comfy beds everything is clean and easy access off the highway. There is complimentary breakfast that is cold breakfast only but considering most places around for this kind of price and accommodations don't even give breakfast it's a really nice bonus. The big fancy Gaylord right down road is three times as much for the exact same room and they don't even give breakfast. Would definitely stay again if I was back in San Diego

Overall the place is great for the cost. Rooms are clean 2 stays in a room. Beds and pillows are comfortable. Foam mattress that is a little softer than I like but fine. Bathrooms are very clean but could use some grout whitener. Water pressure is amazing! Towels are standard hotel towels. The site has a food place open until 5pm. There is a decent pool with a few games. Location is great because you are a 5 minute walk to transit to take you to downtown San Diego in 20 minutes or so. Also if you are attending the conference at the Gaylord you can easily just uber over there. If you are visiting to see the city or coming for a conference it is an affordable and central option. Then spend the leftover you would spend on food and experiences!

I had an amazing stay at the Rambler Motel on Bay Blvd in Chula Vista! From the moment I arrived, the staff was warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. The property has a fun, modern vibe with stylish décor that makes it feel unique and inviting. My room was spotless, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed—perfect for relaxing after a long day. The location is fantastic as well, with easy access to the freeway, great dining options, and the waterfront just minutes away. The motel feels safe, well-maintained, and full of character. I was pleasantly surprised by how peaceful and quiet it was, too. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with my experience. If you’re looking for a clean, charming, and affordable place to stay in Chula Vista, the Rambler Motel is definitely the spot. Highly recommended!

A retro Southern California themed motel, very clean and well cared for. This is my second time staying at the Rambler. Minutes away from downtown Chula Vista and places to eat and the city park, community center. Appreciate not having to spend $300/night on a hotel room. Onsite cafe for light eats and 1980s video games. Did not get to use the pool but the nighttime firepits looked like fun.

Great Motel - one of the best I went to. The bathroom/shower area is quite small but for a Motel the room is pretty nice and colorful. The staff are amazing. Very kind and always here to help!!! Great customer service !!! Tip: they always have home made cold brew and it is pretty damn good ! And cheaper than going to a coffee shop.

I absolutely LOVE this place! So clean and safe. We were thinking of getting a well priced hotel to just sleep so we could go across the border and ended up being one of our favorite spots we have been to. Staff is amazing! It’s very nostalgic with the decor, it’s fun and clean and the water pressure is to die for! We will be back!
